Graag geeft de Evenementencommissie bij deze extra info over Clyde Takeguchi Sensei, zijn aikido én extra leraren die hij in augustus naar onze Zomerschool meeneemt.
Samen zullen zij tijdens de Zomerschool een introductie geven van de ‘Hawaiiaanse stijl Aikido”. Zoals velen weten was Hawaï, olv. Tohei Sensei, de eerste plaats waar buiten Japan les werd gegeven in Aikido. Elke dag geeft Clyde uitleg over de thema’s en die worden dan middels de technieken in praktijk gebracht.

Clyde Takeguchi Shihan 8e dan, begonnen met aikido in 1958 (66 jaar aikido)

– Bill Plank 6e dan, begonnen met aikido in 1981 (43 jaar aikido)

– Sarah Guroff 5e dan, begonnen met aikido in 1992 (32 Jaar aikido)
– Lucy Thomason 3e dan, begonnen met aikido in 1995 (29 jaar aikido)

Natuurlijk is onze Zomerschool toegankelijk voor alle niveau’s, maar met name gevorderde aikidoka’s zullen geïnspireerd zijn wanneer ze kennis nemen van het aikido van onze Amerikaanse gasten.
Deze leraren trainen ook zelf mee zodat er direct gelegenheid is te voelen wat zij doen.

Op vrijdag 23 augustus zal er na afloop van de training een receptie / borrel zijn om ook persoonlijk kennis te maken met onze gasten en natuurlijk alle andere deelnemers.

Clyde Takeguchi

” Thinking back about my training, Nonaka Sensei was a kendo instructor,so I learned a lot of ken stuff from him. Suzuki Sensei was a captain in the police force and one of the aikido instructors. He taught a lot of self defense stuff, as a cop, and was big for a japanese guy, maybe 5’ 10”, and his fellow cops were as big or bigger, according to my memory. Yamamoto Sensei was smallest of the 3 but he was a judoka and one of the best for flipping folks much bigger than him. He was the instructor at the Honolulu dojo when I went to school in Honolulu. “

Sarah Guroff

” I began Aikido in 1992 under Jim Walsh Sensei, while a student at Swarthmore College. Over the years, I had the good fortune to study with the late Yasunari Kitaura Sensei, in Madrid, Spain, with Miguel Morales-Bermúdez Sensei, at the Centro Aikikai in Lima, Peru, and with Edy Kamalsky Sensei in Wageningen, The Netherlands. Since 1999, I trained under Clyde Takeguchi Sensei and call Capital Aikikai my home dojo. Currently I hold the rank of Godan.

Bill Plank

” My bio is maybe boring. I started Uechi Ryu karate as a teenager many years ago. I got my Shodan in Uechi Ryu in 1983. I originally went to aikido just to learn to tumble. I started regular aikido training in 1982 with Clyde Takeguchi and for a few years I practiced karate and aikido. I travel a lot and I’ve attended many, many seminars and trainings with advanced teachers. For many years I was a karate guy who also practiced aikido and then one day I became an aikido guy who used to practice karate. I particularly like the “Hawaii style” of aikido and that is what I do if I had to describe it. Mostly I just train – at home when I’m there and at other dojos with new people when I travel.

Fred Richards
” Aikido I started learning in 1989 under Akira Tohei Shihan of the Midwest division of the United States Aikido Federation. Since 1992 I studie proudly under Clyde Takeguchi Shihan. “
